Space: 1999 in Black and Blonde

The physics may have been a bit sketchy with all that "moon flitting about the galaxy" stuff but back in 1975, during those brief moments when the vertical hold stabilized on my tiny black and white tv, I sometimes witnessed a glorious soft focus apparition.

The screen would briefly resolve an image of the ultimate 1970s ultra-blonde ultra-matron Barbara Bain in her pale bell bottomed space-pant suite perfectly accessorized with a wide gold belt replete with a vinyl laser holster.

Seriously, a mother fucking laser holster.

I could swear they used star filters whenever she was on screen but that may have been a symptom of my space fever for all things Barbara Bain. To me she was the ultimate expression of supermarionation blondness brought to life on my tiny screen.

As if all that was not a bit too much for my impressionable psyche, the fickle atmospheric conditions allowed a few more frames to resolve from the static and...

Zap!

White boots. No, seriously, white fucking space boots.

In retrospect I can only assume that was the defining moment where I became fully gay.

It's strange for me seeing promo shots in full living 1970s color. To me space will forever be black and blonde.
